Your generous donation to Refuge Victoria does more than enable us to provide a safe home for women and children escaping family violence. It helps us provide the supports and community connections that empowers them to build a future, free from violence and fear. It also gives families the one thing that has been missing from their lives for sometimes years: hope.

I love my new bedroom and my cat Pickles loves it too, and the people at refuge are very kind.

Why we need your support

With three substantial refuge facilities of 18 independent units, 15 crisis properties, and nomination rights over a further 35 transitional properties, we’re supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Victoria. Our properties are fully furnished and stocked with basic food and household items to assist clients during their stay with us. Generous donors permit us to provide even more support whilst reminding our clients that their community cares.

Refuge Victoria’s animal therapy program

Animal interactions are being increasingly used in the treatment of trauma and a range of other mental and physical health challenges, and have proven to be effective, particularly in children and young people. That’s why Refuge Victoria has introduced animal therapy into our range of support services offered to families in refuge. Donate to Refuge Victoria’s animal therapy program.

In kind donations

Financial donations to Refuge Victoria help us to provide items and support, specifically tailored to the needs of each client. We rarely accept ad hoc donations from individuals. We endeavour to provide items that are new rather than passing on preloved or unwanted items, however if you/your organisation would like to make an in-kind donation, the items listed below would be most appreciated.

Items we can accept:

  • New linen for single and double beds (single and double bed sheet sets, quilt covers, quilts, pillows, pillowcases, bath towels and face washers)

  • Non-perishable food items

  • Gift cards to purchase food, petrol or other necessities.

  • Unopened toiletries, e.g. shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and sanitary products.

For further donation enquiries, email donations@refugevictoria.org.au.

Donations can be accepted at our head office in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne or in some circumstances, collection may be possible.

Items we cannot accept:

Unfortunately, we have limited resources to sort, store and distribute donations so for this reason cannot currently accept:

  • Pre-loved clothing

  • Pre-loved linen

  • Pre-loved toys and baby items

We work closely with a range of community partners to support our client’s practical needs. The generous support of these organisations allows Refuge Victoria to focus on the provision of crisis accommodation and specialised support.

Eastern Emergency Relief Network
Based in Mitcham, EERN accepts household furniture, whitegoods and electrical appliances in good condition and working order.

Western Emergency Relief Network
